Trimble Expands its Construction Layout Portfolio

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 24, 2009 Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) today introduced a new mechanical total station, the Trimble® TS215 Total Station and a new version of the Trimble LM80 Layout Manager version 5.0. Together the products deliver a high value solution at an economical price point to the general and concrete contractor. Using Trimble construction layout solutions, contractors can increase point layout productivity and accuracy while reducing rework and project expenses. These new products demonstrate Trimble™s continued commitment to leveraging technology to deliver solutions that provide a strong return on investment.

The announcement was made today at the Trimble Building Construction Boot Camp 2009, a field-based, hands-on training event for the building construction industry.

Trimble TS215 Total Station

The new Trimble TS215 Total Station is a part of the Trimble portfolio of total stations designed specifically for the construction contractor. The total station™s intuitive, digital transit-like keypad, make it easy-to-learn and use for non-technical employees on the building construction jobsite. The TS215 is ideal for individuals familiar with using a theodolite and offers a familiar interface with additional capabilities such as measuring distance at a comparable price point. Using the TS215 Total Station, general, concrete and specialty contractors can effectively perform a range of jobsite layout and measurement tasks, including measuring distances and angles, laying out building and excavation lines, creating reference points and offset hubs, and setting out point locations for concrete forms and anchor bolt placement. The TS215 can be used as a stand alone instrument or in combination with the Trimble LM80 Layout Manager.

Trimble LM80 Layout Manager Version 5.0

Using the Trimble LM80 Layout Manager, concrete and general contractors can take control of their building layout. The pocket-sized Trimble LM80 Layout Manager combined with a total station allows the contractor to carry, manage, work with, and lay out the jobsite blueprint for fast and accurate building foundation layout.

The new version of Trimble LM80 Layout Manager, version 5.0 offers increased capabilities and flexible data entry especially in the field. Key enhancements in version 5.0 include:

  • The ability to create and manage stakeout points directly from the DXF file in the field, allowing for difficult to calculate point locations to be easily selected directly from the CAD file, reducing wasted calculation and entry time.

·         The enhanced layer editing features allows the user to effectively manage layer and point data directly in the field. Users view only the data they require for their immediate task to reduce screen clutter and speed up screen redraws. The ability to manipulate data easily in the field reduces time spent in the office preparing jobs and creating layout points.

·         Enhanced blueprint line and point data entry can be stored in user-defined layers to allow for easier data creation and editing capability.

·         The ability to measure distances, slopes and angles between points without doing a setup, allowing the user to use the total station in a traditional method and see a graphical representation of the points measured.

Additionally as part of Trimble™s Connected Site solutions, the Trimble LM80 Layout Manager tightly connects the office and the field by providing Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) email capability in which personnel and project stakeholders can quickly exchange information such as design changes, Requests for Information (RFI), and daily progress updates resulting in significant time savings and increased project communication.

The Trimble TS215 Total Station is available now. The Trimble LM80 Layout Manager version 5.0 is expected to be available during the third quarter of 2009 through Trimble”s worldwide Building Construction Distribution Channel.
