Leadership forum gives students a chance to explore careers in golf

The second annual Future Leaders Forum was held in November at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The event, sponsored by the Toro Company and Walt Disney World, provides participants the opportunity to explore career paths in and outside the game of golf.

Fifty students from 20 states and Singapore attended the forum. Students are members of worldwide chapters of The First Tee, an initiative of the World Golf Foundation, which seeks to provide students learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through golf.

The forum was held in conjunction with the Children’s Miracle Network Classic – the final stop on the 2008 PGA Tour Fall Series. Students were able to see all of the work that goes into making a professional golf event happen. They learned about broadcast journalism from representatives of The Golf Channel and golf course maintenance and conditions from the head golf superintendent, as well as careers in media relations, corporate sponsorship and retail and marketing.

Students were selected through an essay competition and application process.
