The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution May 6 naming July 2009 as Smart Irrigation Month. Rep. John Linder (R-Ga.), Jim Costa, (D-Calif.) and Bart Stupak, (D-Mich.) led the proposal to support the irrigation industry’s efficient water usage awareness campaign. Smart Irrigation Month is the Irrigation Association’s industry campaign to promote public education about responsible water use.
“Smart Irrigation Month is a valuably opportunity for businesses to promote water-saving products and services during what is traditionally the busiest time of the year for water use,” says IA Executive Director Deborah Hamlin.
The resolution arrives three years after the IA first designated July as Smart Irrigation Month in 2006. To promote efficient irrigation practices, IA members wear the Smart Irrigation Month logo and install environmentally conscious residential systems to conserve water.
