Farm hosts garden walk for 9/11 anniversary

Updated Feb 19, 2013

To honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Walnut Grove Farms will host a free Garden Walk on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The farm is featuring a special tribute garden to those who served in the 9/11 attacks. They will fly six flags representing the military branches, American Red Cross, police memorial flag, fireman’s memorial flag, the EMS responders and the Army National Guard. A new landscaped area was also installed in the memory of Sirius, the only fallen service dog who perished in Tower No. 1 in New York City on 9/11.

“Our goal was to honor the service dogs and their handlers who worked tirelessly in this time of natural disaster,” says a Walnut Grove Farms representative.

Attendees can enjoy more than 60 island flower beds and 11 acres of farmland. Special message stones, gazing balls, birdhouses and bird feeders are placed throughout the garden.

Memorial American flags will be given out to the first 100 people, and light refreshments will be served. Walnut Grove Farms is located at 63711 Bates Road in Lenox, Missouri. For more information, visit walnutgrovegoldens.com.
