In 1971, Memorial Day became a federally recognized holiday and was originally declared Decoration Day.

Memorial Day marks a time for citizens to reflect, honor and remember those in the military.

While some people may be joining together to celebrate family, loved ones and friends and cherish the memories, others may be out at a celebration.

However, have you ever thought about planting a tree in in memory of someone?

Planting a tree will benefit future generations and Memorial Day is a great time to plant a tree in someone’s honor.

ArborDay.org provides an opportunity for someone to plant a tree.

“It can inspire energy, faith, devotion, and courage and carry forward the name of those memorialized in a living, vital way that grows grander with the years,” the website states.

The benefit from planting a tree in memory of someone can be a healing and is a great gift for future generations.
