South Pasadena, California has the first “green zone” city park in the United States. All of the landscaping equipment is battery-electric, so they’re 100 percent gas and emissions free.

American Green Zone Alliance founder Dan Mabe spent two years working with the city and manufacturers such as Stihl and Mean Green Mowers. Stihl has battery-powered leaf blower prototypes and Mean Green Mowers has zero-emission, cordless electric mowers. These products tend to be lighter and more long lasting than traditional equipment.

Mabe estimates this will prevent 80,000 pounds of greenhouse gases from being released into the atmosphere every year. Park guests and landscapers won’t breathe in carbon monoxide or nitrogen oxide.

There are plans to implement this kind of technology in other California cities, especially parks and schools.

The Attachments Idea Book
Landscapers use a variety of attachments for doing everything from snow removal to jobsite cleanup, and regardless of how often they are used, every landscaper has a favorite attachment.
