The first of JCB’s limited “Platinum Edition” 3CX backhoe loaders are now rolling off the production line at the company’s U.K. headquarters. The machines, which feature a color combination last seen more than 40 years ago on the JCB 3C III model, are being produced to mark the company’s 70th anniversary.

The special machines are now on their way to customers throughout the United Kingdom, as well as Australia, France, Spain and Russia. JCB will manufacture a total of 70.

“There has been a huge amount of interest in these special backhoes,” said Yvette Henshall-Bell, JCB’s managing director for backhoe loaders. “They look absolutely stunning and we are delighted that customers from all over the world are ordering them.”

Rather than JCB’s customary black and yellow finish, the anniversary edition machines feature red buckets, full white cab and red wheels. With a top speed of 25 miles per hour, the limited-edition 3CX backhoes are fitted with air-conditioned cabs, heated seats and six-speed automatic transmissions.

And just so there’s no doubt about whether they’re special, the backhoe loaders also are equipped with in-cab coffee makers.

JCB manufactured its first backhoe loader in 1953. The company has now produced more than 600,000 backhoes – not to mention a wide variety of other equipment – and sells them in 120 countries.
