Landscapers at GIE+EXPO got a preview of Michelin Tweel Technologies’ newest extension of its “X TWEEL” line, the X TWEEL Turf Caster for zero-turn commercial mowers.
Michelin says the first-of-its-kind airless radial caster tire-wheel assembly replaces a standard 13 X 6.5 X 6 front caster tire and wheel on zero-turn mowers. Eliminating downtime from punctures, the Michelin X TWEEL Turf Caster is maintenance free, the manufacturer says.
The new product is expected to be commercially available early next year.
Michelin Tweel Technologies introduced the X TWEEL Turf at GIE+EXPO in 2014 in partnership with John Deere. Jack Olney, director of sales for Michelin Tweel Technologies, said the tire has been “a tremendous success.”
“Extending the line with the new caster product is a direct response to customer demands for TWEEL performance in front and rear positions on the zero-turn mower,” Olney said.
Meanwhile, only a day or two before GIE, the company announced its plans to expand the X TWEEL tire for skid steer loaders with the launch of a new size – 10N16.5 X TWEEL SSL All Terrain.
Michelin says the 10N16.5 will be a viable option for those skid steer machines that require the smaller 10-inch dimension. Combined with the 12-inch product, Michelin Tweel Technologies now offers sizes that support the vast majority of skid steer machines on the market, the company said.
The 10N16.5 has a 31/32-inch tread depth with a 10/32-inch undertread for ease of retreading. The 177-pound tire can support a 3,700-pound maximum load per tire.
