Love What You Do

Love What You DoWith the average American manager spending 42 hours a week at their job, enjoying what you do is an important part of living a happy life. If that does not seem like many hours for the landscaping industry, these stats probably hit closer to home: Three in 10 (10.8 million) people work 49 or more hours each week.

And with technology keeping you connected to the office 24/7, you’re constantly surrounded by your trade. As Mike Reilly, the head of Randall-Reilly Publishing, would say, “If you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life.”

So, do you enjoy your job?

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.

When asked, many landscapers attribute their passion for the industry to loving the outdoors. Others say it’s the opportunity to display their creativity and design ideas on a natural canvas. When times get hard, it’s good to remember why you started your business and go back to that. If not, you’ll become stressed out, which can cause headaches, sleepless nights and family issues.

So on a day like this one, which is full of hearts, roses and smiling couples, take some time to enjoy the great outdoors — and love what you do.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.
