A woman and man in Portland are accused of offering residential landscaping services to case homes to break into, reports The Oregonian.
Cops were called to a reported home burglary in progress. A neighbor said a suspicious woman knocked on his door asking if he wanted landscape work.
He said, “No,” and noticed the woman and a man she was with didn’t have any landscaping tools or equipment.
The neighbor watched the couple as they knocked on another person’s door and then walked around to the back of the home. Cops caught them walking out of the house and took them into custody.
They are also accused of burglarizing another home and stealing a vehicle in September.
Portland Police Det. Bryan DeClerque interviewed one of the suspects, according to a probable cause affidavit, and he told police the two of them had been casing several houses to find one to break into and were pretending to offer landscaping services.
The duo entered not guilty pleas and are being held at the detention center.
