At the 2017 GIE+EXPO, Makita introduced cordless power equipment, 4-stroke blowers and trimmers and 2-stroke chainsaws.

LXT cordless

Including blowers, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, lawn mowers and chainsaws, Makita says the growing range of 18V X2 LXT (36V) power tools are powered by two 18V Lithium-Ion batteries.

The company says that this equipment gives users commercial-duty performance without noise, maintenance, expense of gas-powered equipment and emissions.

The three new 18V X2 (36V) solutions include the following:

  • 18V X2 (36V) LXT brushless multifunction power head (XUX01Z): The company said it combined the efficiency and performance of 18V X2 and a brushless motor with a quick-release couple-shaft attachment that can be used with multiple attachments for trimming, edging, cultivating and brush cutting. Makita says that all attachments are compatible with the new 25.4cc MM4 4-stroke couple shaft trimmer.
  • 18V X2 (36V) LXT brushless 16” chainsaw (XCU04Z): Makita says that last year, they introduced the 18V X2 LXT (36V) 14” chainsaw (XCU03Z), which included the outer rotor BL brushless motor direct drive system. This new model gives users more capacity with a 16” bar.
  • 18V X2 LXT brushless cordless powerassisted wheelbarrow (XUC01): Makita says that the XUC01 is a convenient solution for material transport on job sites. The company says that users can drop in one or two Makita 18V batteries and get up to two hours of run time under load using two 6.0Ah batteries. Able to transport up to 275 lbs. of material, according to the company, the wheelbarrow comes with two speed settings and a maximum speed of 2.5 mph on a 12-degree incline.

MM4 4stroke

Makita says that engine seizure due to improper fuel and oil mixing is one of the most common failures of 2-stroke power equipment, and the company says it’s delivering a better solution for this with MM4 4-stroke engine power equipment. This line includes handheld and backpack blowers, hedge trimmers, concrete power cutters, string trimmers, brush trimmers, telescoping pole pruners, edgers and couple shafted (split boom) products.

All powered by the Makita MM4 4-stroke multi-position engine, the company says it enables the engine to be inclined at any angle for continuous operation. Additionally, Makita says the automatic engine decompression reduces pull start force by 40 percent.

The four new additions to the MM4 4-stroke engine line are as follows:

  • 6cc MM4 4stroke engine backpack blower (EB7660TH): Combining a cleaner-burning 4-stroke engine with quieter operation, convenience of no fuel mixing and easier start-ups, Makita says the EB7660TH has a 75.6cc commercial-duty 4-stroke engine that delivers a maximum air speed of 206 mph, and a maximum air volume of 706 cubic feet per minute with lower noise at 76dB(A).
  • 50cc MM4 4stroke engine backpack blower (EB5300TH): Makita says the 50cc commercial-duty 4-stroke engine delivers a maximum air speed of 184 mph and a maximum air volume of 516 cubic feet per minute. The company says the EB5300WH model is also available with hip throttle.
  • 4cc MM4 4stroke couple shaft trimmer (EX2650LH): Giving users the 4-stroke advantage and the versatility of a quick release couple shaft attachment, Makita says all attachments are also compatible with the new 18V X2 (36V) LXT power head, model XUX01.

The newest addition to Makita’s chainsaw lineup is the 56cc chainsaw, model EA5600FRGG. Combined with a high power-to-weight ratio, Makita says the 20” 56cc chainsaw is easier to start and has lower vibration. The company says that the 56cc engine delivers 4.0 horsepower and has a speed of 13,800 RPM with an Easy Start spring-assisted starter.
