Even though spring has begun, some parts of the country are still experiencing snow and ice. With this in mind, two companies with Douglas Dynamics, Western Products and Fisher Engineering, have released new pieces of equipment to help clear the pavements and other areas with high foot traffic.

Walk-behind brooms and liquid sprayers

Fisher Engineering and Western Products have released new walk-behind brooms and liquid sprayers: the RB-400 walk-behind rotary broom and the SS-120 liquid sprayer.

The companies say that the RB-400 walk-behind brooms combine the utility of a snowplow and sweeper to clean pavement along buildings, curbs and sidewalks. The centrally driven brooms brush away remaining snow after the plow blades remove heavier amounts of snow.

“We’re committed to helping our customers get more jobs done faster, and often times those jobs include sidewalks, stairs and other tough spots,” said Doug Clark, product manager of Western Products. “With this full line of products, we’re excited to give our customers everything they need to outfit their sidewalk crews.”

The companies say that the rotary brooms adapt to any job and offer adjustable rotation speed and adjustable down-pressure. Snow trajectory can also be directed wherever the operators want by using the pivoting broom heads. The rotary brooms also offer active-assist steering, 360-degree turning and seven handlebar height settings.

The SS-120 walk-behind liquid sprayers can be used for anti-icing sidewalks and other areas with high foot traffic. These sprayers feature a height-adjusting nozzle that can spray up to four feet wide, the companies say, and include spray wands. Both SS-120 sprayers are battery-powered.

“Our customers take pride in every detail of their jobs, and sidewalks are no exception. We’re committed to giving them all the tools they need,” said Tyler Jones, product manager of Fisher Engineering. “Now we can do that, with our full line of walk-behind products.”

Western Products and Fisher Engineering have released two straight blade plows for snow and ice removal. Western Product’s IMPACT UTV is an addition to the line released in 2016, which included the Tornado UTV hopper spreader, and 11 cu ft dual-electric spreader, and the IMPACT UTV V-plow.

Fisher Equipment’s TRAILBLAZER UTV is an addition to the line released in 2016, which included the TRAILBLAZER UTV V-plow and the POLY-CASTER UTV hopper spreader, an 11 cu ft dual-electric spreader.

“UTVs don’t have to sit on the sidelines in the winter anymore,” Clark said. “This straight blade UTV plow—along with our other UTV products—gives our customers everything they need to equip their UTV for success in snow and ice control.”

Both sets of blades are professional-grade and built to stand up to commercial use. Being lighter than their predecessors, these plow blades also fit a wider variety of UTV models and offer easy on/off attachments, as well as removable receiver brackets. Scrape Lock is also offered for these blades.

“In the last year, we’ve helped our customers add UTVs to their plow fleets, and we’re continuing to give them options,” Jones said. “This straight blade UTV plow is lighter and more compatible, and has the strength worthy of the proud FISHER name.”

Other features include:

  • A 6-inch powder coated, high-strength, low-weight, alloy steel blade
  • Four vertical ribs to reinforce the plow and give additional strength
  • A standard, high-quality 5-inch, high-carbon steel cutting edge
  • Full-trip blade protection to reduce stress on the UTV

Compact snowplows

Western Products and Fisher Engineering have announced their newest addition to their snow and ice control equipment. Western Products’ WESTERN DEFENDER compact snowplow and Fisher Equipment’s FISHER HS compact snowplow are designed to fit mid-size pickups and SUVs and feature a high-strength, low-weight, alloy-steel blades.

“We wanted to give consumers a true WESTERN experience by providing a strong, effective plow, and that’s what the DEFENDER is,” Clark said. “Just because you’re plowing your own property doesn’t mean you can’t do it like a pro.”

Both blades are reinforced with six vertical ribs, which delivers torsional strength and eliminates blade twisting. Both machines feature a full-trip moldboard that protects the plow and truck when encountering hidden obstacles.

“The ‘FISHER Nation’ includes all plowers, from the big commercial guys to the personal plowers,” Jones said. “We’re proud to offer this powerful, durable plow to the consumer market, so they too can be a part of the FISHER legacy.”

Other features include:

  • A 5-inch high-carbon, hardened-steel cutting edge
  • Scrape Lock technology, providing the scraping performance of a larger plow without the extra weight
  • Choice between CabCommand hand-held or joystick controls

Skid-steer accessories

Western Products announced the release of its new oscillating mount option for both the PRODIGY and PRO-PLUS skid-steer snowplows.

Fisher Engineering also introduced their new plow designed for skid-steers: the XRS. The XRS features an oscillating plow mount, which comes standard on the XRS and is optional on the HD2 and the HDX skid-steer plows.

The mounts attach the snowplows to the universal plates of the skid-steer loaders, and feature six degrees of side-to-side oscillation, which allow the plows to adjust to uneven terrain. The improved scraping performances allows the blades’ cutting edges to wear more evenly and last longer. Bucket hydraulics are used on the skid-steer loaders to raise and lower the blades.

When the plow is angled to the left or right, it will automatically retract the inside wing when angled and then will return to the scoop position once straightened again. The new mount comes standard on the XRS plow and is an option for the FISHER HD2 and HDX straight-blade skid-steer plows.

Jones added: “Skid-steer plowing jobs often mean tackling a large area and a large amount of snow. With this new plow and mount, we’re giving our customers the confidence to do a great job on even the most daunting tasks.”

Currently, Western Products offers two skid-steer-compatible plows: the PRODIGY multi-position wing snowplow and the straight-blade PRO-PLUS snowplow.

“We set out to make plowing easier and more effective for our skid-steer customers,” Clark said. “This new mount helps the operator do a better job in less time, which is always our goal.”
