‘Someday’ Isn’t a Day of the Week

SomedayAs the saying goes, “There are only 7 days in a week, and ‘someday’ isn’t one of them.” But if you judged by our comments and plans, you might think differently.

“I’ll go through this stack of papers someday.”

“I’ll find a better work/life balance someday.”

“I’ll grow my business’s online presence someday.”

So, when is “someday”? Is it when your workload gets lighter? Or is it when you finally get caught up?

If you’re waiting for all of the stresses of every day life to fade away, you’re going to be waiting forever.

When you have a serious goal or task that needs to be done, you have to set a schedule — or it will never happen. Here are 3 tips for making that day a reality.

1. Start by replacing “someday” with a date, month or season. You can even break it down more by setting checkpoints. So for example, if you want to complete a task in six months, set a goal to have half of it complete by the three-month mark.
2. Hold yourself to that deadline. Treat your personal deadlines the same way you would if you were working for a client. It’s easy to give yourself slack since you’re the one who set the date, but you have to take it seriously or you’ll keep pushing it off. Which leads me to…
3. Stop putting things off. We’re all guilty of procrastination, but doesn’t it feel great to check something off of your list that has been bothering you for a while? For me, it’s not that I don’t always have time for tasks, but there are other things I would rather do instead. For tips on how to stop procrastinating, click here.
