Weekly Reader and the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute’s Education and Research Foundation launched an educational outreach program for elementary students called TurfMutt. A Yard Dog Science Program, TurfMutt uses worksheets, experiments and games to teach students in third through fifth grades about the science behind a lawn’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, cool the air, control dust, reduce erosion and filter water.
TurfMutt was sent to schools in the Washington, D.C., and Sacramento, California, areas earlier in September. For more information, visit www.TurfMutt.com.
