Business partners and sisters Nancy Marshall and Becky Whitacre, owners of Smalls Landscaping in Valparaiso, Indiana, were named the 2013 Landscaper of the Year by Total Landscape Care magazine.

During a cruise to the Bahamas, Nov. 9-12, the two were recognized from among 12 finalists at the gala banquet.

“We are pleased to honor Smalls Landscaping as this year’s winner, and we congratulate the other finalists for their extremely unique projects.”

Sponsored by New Holland Construction, the Landscaper of the Year program recognizes the top landscaping professionals in the country who demonstrate the highest standards of their profession.

Smalls Landscaping was selected for its outstanding examples of ambitious landscaping design and construction projects for well-known clients, ranging from Oprah Winfrey to celebrity athletes. But the company also provides unique and artistic plantings and landscapes for smaller properties that are dazzling, as well.

“Smalls’ designs and execution are second to none,” says Billy Sims, editor of Total Landscape Care. “Marshall and Whitacre have more than 60 years experience with plant materials, and they are shining examples of a family-run business.”

All 12 finalists will also receive a free, one-year lease on a New Holland 200 Series skid-steer loader, along with a toolbox set valued at more than $2,500.

“The Landscaper of the Year program illustrates New Holland Construction’s commitment to hard-working landscape contractors,” says Curtis Goettel, brand marketing manager, New Holland Construction. “We are pleased to honor Smalls Landscaping as this year’s winner, and we congratulate the other finalists for their extremely unique projects.”

Smalls Landscaping will be featured as the cover story for the January 2013 edition of Total Landscape Care, and each of the 11 finalists will be featured subsequently in profiles about their businesses throughout the year.
