Missouri DOT Employs Robot to Mow Roadside Grass

Updated Jul 14, 2013

MoDOT1Our sister publication, Better Roads magazine, reports that The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has begun using a remote-controlled robot to mow grass on the sides of some highways in the state, according to WMFD.

The four-blade robotic mower is controlled by a remote control, which employees can use approximately 500 feet from the mower.

Because the mower is robotic, this increases the safety of MoDOT employees by using the robot on steep embankments instead of a crew member using a riding mower that could potentially tip over.

The mower was launched into the program last month and MoDOT is looking to add a few more in the upcoming years.
