In celebration of Earth Day, PLANET, the Professional Landcare Network, hosted its PLANET Day of Service.

On April 22, hundreds of volunteers flooded communities to give back.

This year, 89 projects were conducted in 24 states, with the help of 2,200 volunteers at an estimated value of $400,000.

There was a wide variety of landscaping and lawn care projects conducted at hospitals, schools, community gardens, parks, non-profits, ball fields and supporting military families.

A few of the projects include:

– YardApes of New Milford Connecticut completed six projects on Day of Service.  They chose their projects from entries submitted from the community.  They did work for a number of homeowners in need as well as the town football area and an animal non-profit.

– Sposato Landscape Colorado of Milton, Delaware once again did landscaping for the Home of the Brave, a vacation facility for families of combat veterans, and Jusst Sooup Ministry – working on their garden.

– HighGrove Partners of Atlanta completed a large landscaping project at the Special Needs School of Gwinett which included dozens of volunteers.

– Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa worked on the Waterloo Community Garden.

– Fine Earth in Poolesville, Maryland did a landscaping project for a military family who lost their father in Afghanistan.

– Terracare Associates, of Colorado and California continued their ongoing maintenance of the Columbine Memorial and completed a project at a non-profit farm for disabled children.

– Jacobsen Landscape Design & Construction of Midland Park, New Jersey completed a landscaping project at an environmental center and one at the town railroad station.

Many state associations organized projects including: Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association who landscaped a patio at a wildlife center; Michigan Green Industry Association who did landscaping at an arboretum; the Illinois Professional Lawn Care Association who worked on a Fischer House project as well as a cemetery project, the Colorado Association of Lawn Care Professionals who worked on the Riverside Cemetery project for the sixth year, the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado who did three landscaping projects – they built a wheelchair accessible garden for a disabled public school teacher, did a project at an elementary school, and they built a walkway and patio at a church site, and in May, the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association will be doing landscaping at the State Capital.
