The small roar of lawn mowers could be heard in south-central Iowa last weekend, but not for the reason most people think.
Dozens of lawn mowers took to the race track for the National Lawn Mower Racing Summer Nationals at the River Bottom Raceway, according to Radio Iowa.
All of the blades on the mowers were removed for safety and the engines were slightly modified to reach top speeds of 50 mph.
Approximately 150 lawn mower racers were battling it out for the “top blade runner.”
Co-owner Doug Baber told Radio Iowa that racing has been popular down South for several decades, but it’s just starting to take off in the Midwest.
