The 2014 Annual Meeting and Expo slated for Nov. 21-24 in Denver, Colorado will feature women landscape architects presenting education sessions.
The topics including agriculture, local food products, green roofs and living walls, healthcare and therapeutic design, parks and recreation design, plants and soils, sustainable design, transportation and complete streets, urban design, stormwater management and wetlands.
All sessions are approved for continuing education credit with the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System, and many sessions are also approved by AIA, AICP and USGBC/GBCI.

Friday, November 21
FRI-D01 Artful Rainwater Design II: More Ideas on Green Infrastructure that Celebrates Rain (3:30- 5 p.m.) – This session presents on artful rainwater design, offering regionally-specific examples of green infrastructure that celebrates rain. Presenters include Eliza Pennypacker, ASLA and Christine Ten Eyck, FASLA.
Saturday, November 22
SAT-A01 Inside the LA Studio with Balmori Associates (11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) – The New York based practice is recognized internationally for designing sustainable master plans, waterfront parks, public spaces, and gardens. The firm’s approach is rooted in the exploration of the boundaries between nature and structure through landscape. Presenters include Diana Balmori, FASLA.
SAT-A09 Paths of Practice: Reflections on Life, Work, and Leadership (11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) – This session will reflect personal paths of practice of four successful women taking leadership positions over the past 40 years. Presenters: Susannah Drake, FASLA, Gina Ford, ASLA, Jennifer Guthrie, ASLA and Terry Ryan, FASLA.
SAT-B11 Breaking Out—Talking Inspiration, Transformation, and Risk (2:30 – 4 p.m.) – Three of the nation’s leading landscape architects and creative thinkers will share their breakout experiences. Presenters include: Mikyoug Kim, ASLA, Christine Ten Eyck, FASLA
SAT-B06 Remove or Reuse: Transforming Site-Harvested Wood (2:30 – 4 p.m.) - Landscape architects are often faced with the challenge of removing valuable trees that cannot be saved. In response, many have successfully integrated salvaged wood into unique design features for their projects. Presenters include: Andrea Cochran, FASLA, and Elaine Shaw, ASLA.
Sunday, November 23
SUN-B06 The Allure of Water in the City: The Transformation of Four Urban Rivers (2:30 – 4 p.m.) – Leading “river warriors” will share their stories relaying the evolution of urban rivers and their reintegration into city life, bringing about economic, social, and environmental change. Presenters include: Mia Lehrer, FASLA, Mary Pat Mattson, ASLA, and Gail Thomas, Hon. AIA.
SUN-B03 Integrated Urban Waterfronts in an Era of Climate Change (2:30 – 4 p.m.) – Through a series of compelling case studies, this session will explore the role ecologists play in helping to design our urban waterfronts for a dynamic future. Presenters include: Gina Ford, ASLA, and Susan Stainback, ASLA.
SUN-B08 Letting the Street Win: Saying No to Donuts (2:30 – 4 p.m.) – Streets and pedestrians lose ground when individual project sites become design boundaries. Many city leaders encourage distinct development projects, but this practice prioritizes “block wrappers” (donuts) over street and crosswalk legibility. A discussion of recent project examples will make the case for designing streets as two-sided spaces for continuous walking. Presenters include: Shannon Nichol, ASLA.
