Stihl broke ground recently at the site of a new distribution center in Oxford, Connecticut.

The facility will serve the Northeast Stihl division, which serves customers throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Vermont.

A company news release says the Oxford location was selected for its access to Interstate 84 and other main routes for deliveries. Once online, the distribution center will enable Stihl to maintain one-day shipping service to most of the 1,000-plus dealers in the Northeast region.

Officials in Oxford were delighted by Stihl’s decision to locate the distribution operation there.

“Stihl is a marquis name in outdoor power equipment,” said Oxford First Selectman George R. Temple. “We are proud that they have chosen Oxford for their distribution center and we look forward to many years of Stihl an Oxford corporate citizen.”

Stihl distributes its products across the United States through a two-tiered system, selling through a network of independent distributors and company-owned branches. Distributors and branches, in turn, sell products to authorized Stihl servicing dealers nationwide.

Casey McGrath, branch manager for Northeast Stihl, will also serve as the branch manager for the new location. The new Northeast Stihl facility will occupy 24 acres with 120,000 square feet.

The facility is expected to be complete in the fall of 2016.

“We are looking forward to becoming active members of the Oxford community and hope to participate in all the activities the area has to offer,” McGrath said.
