Low-maintenance, year-round color

Private residence, Norwich, Connecticut
Landscaping designed and installed by Sprigs & Twigs Landscapes, Gales Ferry, Connecticut

This homeowner wanted “low-maintenance, fragrant plantings with lots of year-round color.” Linda Lillie of Sprigs & Twigs Landscapes undertook the design, undaunted by the challenges presented by the large house and yard. Whitespire birches were planted to create a sense of scale and negate the house’s perceived height. Dwarf Fothergilla and Dwarf Summersweet add fragrance to the yardscape, while Carefree Delight roses give a burst of color in warm months. Winterthur Viburnum provides red leaf color in autumn. Working with the builder, Lillie incorporated large boulders unearthed during construction into this visually interesting design.
