Refreshing Low Country landscape

Private residence, Seabrook Island, South Carolina
Landscaping installed by Ansel Landscape Gardeners and designed by local landscape architect Jerry Poore

The original landscape design was done by the homeowner to maximize sunsets and sunrises, protect the marshes from runoff and accommodate the ever-present wildlife. Buffers of ornamental grasses, trees and shrubs along the edges of the salt marshes prevent pollutants from entering the water, and “wildlife corridors” consisting of native wax myrtle have been planted along the property lines. Plantings included five varieties of palms and Confederate Jasmine, Carolina Jessamine and Lady Banks roses were trellised in different locations on the house. Future plans include a pond and stone patio for the back yard, including an open fire pit for oyster roasts. Price: $31,000, not including hardscaping
