Improved curb appeal with easy care gardens

Private residence, Arlington, Massachusetts
Landscaping designed and installed by Sprigs & Twigs Landscapes, LLC, Gales Ferry, Connnecticut

A new homeowner with two small children had an overgrown front yard that was smothering the house. A new, low-maintenance garden with improved curb appeal was imperative to the homeowner. Linda Lillie of Sprigs & Twigs Landscapes met this design challenge using plantings that brought color throughout the growing season. Russian Cypress, an evergreen ground cover that turns reddish-purple in the winter, was used on the front incline. Japanese Stewartia, a tree that flowers in July and has great fall color and exfoliating bark, was eye-catching at the corner of the house, and the purple blooms of Purple Candles Astilbe added color throughout the garden. The landscapers installed new gardens, a retaining wall, front stairs, walkways and a driveway. Price: $50,000
