Large waterfall transports residents to serene surroundings

Private residence, Valparaiso, Indiana
Landscape designed and installed by Small’s Landscaping, Valparaiso, Indiana

A garden retreat was created in the back yard, including a large pond and waterfall/stream that employs a 10,000-gallon-per-hour pump to create the desired sound of water crashing over moss-covered boulders. A 12-foot bronze sculpture at the back of the pond creates a water cascade, further enhancing the appeal of the yard’s water structures. Additional boulders and a ledge rock stone bridge help soften the appearance of the landscape, while a flagstone path encircles the pond and meanders back to the gazebo. Thousands of flowers, including hydrangeas, rhododendrons, azaleas, assorted perennials, ornamental grasses and various spring bulbs add splashes of color. The biggest challenge was that the home was still under construction, and all building and plant material had to be hauled up a steep, unpaved front incline. Price withheld by customer request.
