Creating a Tranquil Cove

Updated Feb 5, 2013

The designer faced many challenges when he installed this koi pond at a home in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. First, the pond, outdoor room and driveway were built at the same time, resulting in a tight work space. Also, the crew had to incorporate a filtration system and pump that was easily accessible, but out of sight. (Piping to the pumps was run under the driveway to a secluded area behind an existing wall.) The design used boulders, tall grasses, native plants and granite to create the natural cove look of the pond. Underwater lights provide nighttime viewing, and the two waterfalls were positioned to be visible from inside the house.
