An Illinois woman is being rewarded for her hard work and dedication from 25 years ago.
Phyllis Powell and her late husband were a large reason why the town’s veterans’ memorial was built, according to CBS Chicago.
Because of their efforts, the Home Depot came together to complete a landscaping project in thanks.
A team of volunteers from the company removed bushes, built a garden wall, spread mulch, planted flowers and erected a fountain as a way to say thank you for their efforts.
Powell continues to tend the gardens by the memorial and plants flags every Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day and Flag Day.
