The U.S. National Arboretum has turned its attention to turfgrass.
The Arboretum is focusing on putting together a Grass Roots exhibit, which will be the centerpiece of the larger Grass Roots Initiative, a four-year program that examines the environmental, economic, aesthetic and recreation benefits of turfgrass in landscapes.
The USNA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service and the National Turfgrass Federation have completed the plans for the exhibit and expect to begin construction this spring.
The 1.3-acre exhibit will showcase the various uses for turfgrass and more than 50 ornamental grass varieties.
The Irrigation Association has been involved by focusing on the science of the turfgrass and will highlight the importance of efficient irrigation in the exhibit.
The exhibit will be located near the USNA headquarters building in Washington, D.C.
