The world’s largest indoor vertical farm will be created in Newark, New Jersey for $30 million. The former industrial site will also serve as the global headquarters for farming and tech company AeroFarms.
The vertical farm will incorporate aeroponics, a soil-free method of planting with no pesticides. This new site will provide access to locally-grown produce to residents in the surrounding Ironbound neighborhood.
Aerofarms hopes to grow 1.3 million pounds of produce annually, which should feed about 60,000 people.
Below is a diagram of the aeroponics vertical farming system.
