The shelter, called Cross Roads House, had hired Site Structures about five years ago while completing a property renovation. Since then, Site Structures owner Charles Bourdages has provided ongoing maintenance – including, most recently, an annual refresh – at no cost.
Bourdages told Fosters.com that keeping the shelter grounds maintained is reassuring to the residents of Cross Roads House, serving as a visible reminder that they’re part of the community. “All of us,” he said, “are one accident or a mental illness away from a homeless shelter.”
Last week, Site Structures donated equipment, supplies, 20 cubic yards of mulch and three workers to provide general grounds clean-up, pruning and weeding.
Since its opening in 1982, Cross Roads House has become one of the largest emergency and transitional shelters in New Hampshire, helping an estimated 5,000 people and more than 500 families. The shelter operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
