My four-day excursion to Portland, Oregon, ended with a day of impactful speakers and a night of awards during the TOCA 2013 annual conference.
We were honored to receive several awards for our communication work. Our staff won three first place design awards, one merit design award, first place for innovative use of social media and first place for our web design. We also took home two of the coveted Gardner Awards, which are the top ones given, for our social media efforts and article design.
In a working environment where praise and acknowledgement is commonly replaced with deadlines, it’s nice to be able to bring home awards to our staff.
While trophies might not be your style, try to find ways to appreciate the extra work, attention to detail and drive your employees have, as well. A “thank you” can go a long way.
So although I’ve enjoyed the City of Roses, I’ll be glad to get back home and start working with TLC’s great staff again: Emily Ezekiel, art director, and Patty Vaughan, online managing editor.
