After a long day on the jobsite, landscape work may feel like punishment to you or your employees. But for one teen, it actually is.
A Douglasville, Georgia, father was arrested on child cruelty charges after he punished his 16-year-old son by making him carry a 23-pound landscape stone for several miles on more than one occasion, USA Today reports.
Charlie Mayes, a veteran, said he used military-style punishment because his son watched too many videos and didn’t do his school and house work, and he saw no problem with this punishment. After several days of the teen carrying the stone — sometimes as early as 3 a.m. — a pizza delivery driver notified police. The father was sentenced to family counseling. It’s crazy how something landscapers do every day can also be a form a punishment. Maybe getting paid for your work makes it a little better?
